Welcome to the experimental aircraft page of the most used and trusted lithium battery on the market!

EarthX is proudly used by a multitude of aircraft and helicopter manufacturers and endorsed by many engine companies such as Rotax, Continental, ULS Power and Viking.  The ETX Hundred series -( ETX680C, ETX680,  ETX900 and the ETX1200) are recommended for your primary engine aircraft battery or backup battery. Features included in these models are:

1- over discharge protection- leave your master key on you will not damage the battery

    2- over charge protection

    3- short circuit protection

    4- excessive cranking protection

5- cell balancing technology built in

6- LED battery fault light indicator to alert user to the state of charge and state of health of the battery.

There is an actual LED light on the battery itself plus there is an input wire that can be connected to your EFIS or a 12V LED light to your control panel so you will be alerted by a flashing or solid LED light if you need to evaluate the battery. Please see the manual for details.

And these features are redundant for added protection and safety.

    Experimental Aircraft

We have 3 new models designed specifically for the aircraft market! The new ETX680, ETX900 and the ETX1200. The ETX680 and the ETX900 will fit into most of your existing PC680 Odyssey hardware battery boxes (there are many aftermarket suppliers and it may not be exact, if you have a 4 sided fire wall forward kit, this will not work with the ETX680 or ETX900) but with many more features and a lot less weight!! We also have the ETX1200 in a slightly larger case which is our “E” case dimensions. In addition to the new physical size of these models, they also come with redundant electronics on the BMS board and have an LED battery fault light indicator. All of the EarthX models meet the requirements set forth by Rotax engines to be an approved lithium battery which is over discharge protection, over charge protection, short circuit protection, cell balancing built in and excessive cranking protection (temperature sensing).

All the aircraft you see on this site are real users or OEM aircraft manufacturers planes that use the EarthX battery! We are working directly with over 11 OEM aircraft/helicopter manufacturers who have placed their trust and endorsement in the EarthX brand and many aftermarket suppliers.

Why choose an EarthX lithium battery?

    1. You will instantly remove 11+ pounds compared to the lead acid battery in your experimental aircraft! Now that is a huge weight savings.
    2. Now you can easily have a backup battery and not worry about the additional weight. In fact, if you switch from a lead acid battery and add a backup battery, you still have decreased your overall weight by 50%!
    3. Designed and engineered with a complete battery management system (BMS) to protect your battery from over discharge, over charge, built in cell balancing, short circuit protection, and excessive cranking protection. We are the only manufacturer that has this amount of protection.
    4. Significant increase in cranking power! Not only do you remove 80% of the weight, but you gain extra cranking amps when replacing a PC680 with an EarthX brand. (170CCA to 320 CCA)

There are 3 main factors you need to consider when choosing the right battery for your plane.
    1. Can it turn the engine over (CCA)?
    2. Does it have enough capacity to run your needed instruments if the alternator fails (true amp hours) ?
    3. Is it designed for the application you are using it in (alternator amperage output)?

As Odyssey batteries are widely used in the experimental market so we have a chart of the Odyssey’s batteries and the EarthX batteries to assist you in a comparison.
A common question is can you wire the batteries in series or parallel with a lead acid battery? NO, you cannot do this. The voltage of the lead acid is lower than the lithium so it will drain the lithium battery.
